Hi, Dennis! Pat's happy that you're doing what you WANT to do, not, as she says, "leading a life of quiet desperation" like so many of the rest of humanity! Glad you guys are doing well. I've relocated, sort of, to LA to start yet another life as an actor. We'll see how it goes. All the best to you both. Yes, we have at least two sets, one smaller and one bigger, of representative patung wayang that Pak Hamzah made for me (the smaller set) and for Pat (the larger set) in 1978 or so. I need to take my set to Kelantan to get the puppets repaired. We know a good puppet maker, if you'd like to go and see him when you're in Kelantan next!Howardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12672308448529605680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740484588449927498.post-15738682481041690492014-03-03T14:28:40.013+08:002014-03-03T14:28:40.013+08:00Hi there Howard. The Kelantanese are still a proud people with it's own culture that is distinct to the other part of Malaysia. I am glad both you and Pat get to meet some of the friends and watch once again the wonder of their Wayang Kulit. BTW did you get some of the patong that they use in the wayang. It is a great piece of artwork and worth keeping as a priceless piece of art. I am trying to get a good one when I next visit Kelantan. Have a nice day; salam to Pat as well.Pak Idrushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05420141407304142741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740484588449927498.post-29421343625714917202013-11-30T00:50:19.735+08:002013-11-30T00:50:19.735+08:00I suppose this posting completes the two postings ...I suppose this posting completes the two postings per year for 2013.
See you some time in 2014, Mr Howard, sir.Al-Manarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07203360858632549270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740484588449927498.post-66869172723630302332013-11-20T10:46:10.382+08:002013-11-20T10:46:10.382+08:00That's OK, Naim. I've never been to Laos, and I'd like to see it before development starts to make the country resemble Thailand --- especially a royal capital like Luang Prabang! But alas, the PASEA study group is dominated by island SE Asia types, and they will probably vote for Bali. I suspect the cost will be the biggest determining factor; the Luang Prabang cost proposal was very much on the high side in US dollars, making it prohibitive for local grad students to enroll. Quoting Wikitravel:

"One of those small cities with atmospheric and charming personalities, Luang Prabang is now in the radar of most tourists who have been or dream of going to Venice (the mother of all atmospheric cities with charming personalities), Salzburg, Dubrovnik, Ubod, Hoi An, Cuzco, San Miguel Allende, Guanajuato, Puebla, Morelia, Oaxaca, Napier or Santa Barbara in California."

Mmmm.

regards,
-FrankFrank Hardistyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14922884629465515997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740484588449927498.post-35802327955781784902012-04-13T00:42:30.299+08:002012-04-13T00:42:30.299+08:00Fun stuff!
